Just wanted to catch you all up on some new features we have recently added for Underground Members:
iPhone Optimized Web App
For all you techies with iPhones or iPod Touches, don’t forget that the Underground Members Area has been optimized to be viewed on your device. You can watch videos and brush up on that trick before you perform it on the street. Simply type http://www.masteryourmagic.com/members into Safari on your device and you’ll automatically be redirected to the iPhone optimized site. Don’t forget to click the +sign at the bottom and click “Add to Home Screen” to create a link going directly to the members area!
Video LinksHave Changed
You’ll notice that we’ve tweaked the video links for each trick a little. I was getting some complaints that people couldn’t figure out how to watch the tutorials, so I hope this is a little clearer. Now, when you find a trick you want to view, there are two choices, Watch and Learn. They are both available in Small or Large videos. Click either small or large next to “Watch” or “Learn” to watch the respective video.
Log Out Button Added
Previously you weren’t able to log out when in the members area. We’ve added a log out link in the top right corner.
Future Changes
Soon, you will be able to edit your account information from the “My Account” link in the members area.
We also may be developing an actual MasterYourMagic App for the iTunes Store.
What new features would you like to see in the members area? Please comment on this post with any ideas or suggestions you have for us. Remember, it’s your Members Area and we want you to love it!
The US Playing Card Company, makers of most cards us magicians use, officially moved its headquarters to Erlanger, KY last week. The “Card Cutting Ceremony” was held last week and among attendees was Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear.
“Today is not just about fun and games, it’s about jobs, it’s about business,” said Governor Beshear. “It’s about economic opportunity, it’s about a thriving region, it’s about hope for the future.”
The company, which produces over 400,000 decks of cards per day, will bring 500 jobs to the state.
It’s a good month for us Kentucky magicians. First SAM plans it’s new Magic Center for Louisville, and now this. Do I dare say Kentucky is climbing the ranks for the title “Magic Capital of the World”? Maybe if The Magic Castle moves here too!
Watch the vid below for more footage of the ceremony.
Here’s your weekly dose of magic on the good ol’ tube:

9:19 am – Dark Magic – TCM Joe Doakes comic short in which the hapless everyman (Robert Benchley, who wrote the script) tries his hand at becoming an amateur magician and shows his newly learned tricks to his unimpressed son.
The Society of American Magicians has announced that their proposed location for their planned ‘Magic Center” will be Louisville, KY. As Kentucky is the headquarters for MasterYourMagic.com, we are pretty excited! According to sammagiccenter.com, “This magnificent 9-acre property will include the best museum of magic in the world, a magnificent research library, performing arts theater, S.Y.M. youth magic school and magic camp, souvenir magic store, and the world-wide headquarters of the S.A.M.”
The buzz around the net as of late is all about speculation regarding the recent ownership change of the US Playing Card Company. The company, makers of most decks us magicians use, has reported that in order to protect their trademarked “Rider Back” design, they will no longer print any custom job that involves markings on the backs of the cards. The alterations can weaken the company’s trademark, making it easier for other playing card makers to copy their designs. Most gaff cards will not be affected such as double-backs, double-face, blank back, etc. Other gaff cards which do alter the rider back design a bit such as split-backs (half back and half face) are still under consideration, according to Tina Donlin at the US Playing Card Company. What this means for magicians is that some tricks may have been forced into extinction. “Twilight Angels” by Paul Harris, Ted Lesley style decks, and others have almost overnight, become collectibles. If you have one of these decks, retire it!
